2016 Windcraft Pittwater Owners’ Rally Round Up

The 10th Pittwater Windcraft Owners’ Rally was a huge success …and whole lot of fun as you’ll see from the video!

You can download all the photos from the day here.

Here’s a round up of what happened from Windcraft’s General Manager, Allan Bridge…

Rally Round Up

It was a beautiful, warm day with clear skies and everything we could ask for…except wind! The forecast was for fickle conditions with a light wind in a variable, shifting direction.

But this didn’t dampen spirits or the buzz of excitement at breakfast and the race briefing. It was fantastic to see such a great turnout – including many lasting friendships forged from the previous ten years of rallies.

It’s always a pleasure to see so many like-minded people in one spot sharing the sheer joy of their yachts…and we were so happy to see so many Windcraft owner boats participating, with other boat owners jumping on board for the day.

The First Race

The morning race started just to the north of Scotland Island – here there was a brief chance for those with kites to let them fly…and what a colourful sight it was, a fabulous array of bright spinnakers making their way down Pittwater.

A fading breeze saw the race shortened to finish up the top end of Pittwater.

The non extras division was won by Hanse 350 ‘La Niche’ and extras division was won by the latest Dehler 46, ‘Verve’. Congratulations to both boats and crew.

Lunch Break at Hungry Beach

Lunch was enjoyed at Hungry Beach with 45 boats anchored in the bay and owners enjoying a swim, a well deserved cold drink and some ‘yachtie” socialising.

The Second Race

The second race began in a light wind, but at least it was consistent.  It was another wonderful sight to see all the boats tacking east down Broken Bay. A bunch of the front-runners completed the shortened course and Hanse 505 ‘First Light’ was the winner of the Owners’ trophy. Well done guys! The breeze died right out in the afternoon and many boats decided it was time to drop sails and motor back – no one wanted to be late to the party!

Windcraft Owners’ Rallies

Back at RMYC the festivities kicked off with welcome drinks and a band. A three course meal with a very special performance by an “Illusionist” kept the crowd of 240 people entertained. The prize presentations and speeches were a lot of fun and many enjoyed the special video highlighting  the 10 year history of the regatta. As with all our owners’ rallies the focus of the day is about taking part, not just performance in the races and the major prize is awarded in recognition of that.

Mike Barry from 385 ‘Elara’ was the lucky winner of a North Sails Gennaker, generously provided by North Sails. A big thank you to North Sails and well done Mike and crew! Then it was time to party and celebrate not only the day but the past ten years of rallies. The band played and many stories were shared well into the night… A big thanks to all who took part and of course our fabulous sponsors. Here’s to the next 10 years!

Windcraft Owners’ Rallies

We love hearing all your feedback from the day. Here are some emails from a happy racegoers…

Thank you so much for extending an invitation for the Owners’ Regatta. We had such an amazing day on the water with Ric and we thoroughly enjoyed the evening with the owners. Yourself and the greater Windcraft Team made us feel very welcome. It was a wonderful, well-organised day to attend. Melissa and I had such a wonderful day for our first sail on a Hanse. We are both looking forward to enjoying a sail later in the year when we pick up the Hanse 575 in Portugal.

All the best,
Helen, Adam, Melissa, Matt and Richard

Dear Peter,

I just wanted to thank you all for a great day last Saturday. It was as always well organised and a great credit to Team Windcraft.
We had one person on board who had never been on a boat before and could not swim and she had a wonderful day (as did everybody else). Perhaps in her case, not much wind helped, but as always it was great.
Thanks very much and well done to all. They are a great team.
